Pool Deck
Pavers, travertine and cool-deck surfaces that stay safe and comfortable on bare feet in Florida heat.
Schedule An AppointmentYour deck is where the living happens: lounging, grilling, kids running laps, guests gathering. A cracked, stained or scorching-hot deck changes how the whole backyard feels. A new one is among the most noticeable upgrades you can make.
In Central Florida a pool deck has three jobs: stay cool underfoot, stay slip-resistant when wet, and handle sun, rain and constant pool chemicals without falling apart. We help you pick the surface that does all three and looks right with your home.
Why re-decking matters
- Cracked or heaved concrete is a trip hazard and lets water under the slab
- Old, dark concrete gets painfully hot. Modern light pavers and travertine stay much cooler.
- A new deck changes the look of the entire backyard
- Pavers and stone add real value when you sell

Pool deck materials for Florida
| Material | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|
| Travertine pavers | Stays coolest underfoot, naturally slip-resistant, upscale look | Higher cost; seal to resist staining |
| Concrete pavers | Huge color/pattern range; individual pavers replaceable; flexes with ground movement | Joint sand needs topping up; seal for color |
| Cool-deck / spray texture over concrete | Most budget-friendly refresh; cooler, textured surface | Recoat every few years; cracks in the slab can telegraph |
| Stamped / stained concrete | Looks like stone or tile at a lower price | Can crack; sealer must be maintained for grip |
| Natural stone (flagstone, slate) | One-of-a-kind, organic look | Uneven surface; darker stones get hot |
| Composite / wood | Warm look for raised areas | Heat and moisture are tough on it here; rarely ideal at pool level in Florida |
Safety features worth building in
Slip-resistant texture everywhere the deck gets wet. Proper slope and drains so water runs away from the pool and the house. Lighting along walkways and steps for evening swims. And a compliant pool barrier: Florida law requires a safety barrier for residential pools (a fence, screen enclosure, or approved alarms and covers), with self-closing, self-latching gates. We’ll make sure your new deck works with yours.
Add-ons that make a deck more livable
Built-in planters and seat walls, a shaded pergola or covered lounge zone, a fire table, an outdoor kitchen nearby, and enough open space for loungers that doesn’t crowd the walkway. See Custom Features and Kitchens for ideas.
Permits and code
Most deck replacements and expansions need a permit, and setbacks, drainage and barrier rules all come into play. We handle permitting as part of the job, so you don’t have to.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a new deck take?
Most paver decks take about a week of work, depending on size and site access.
Do pavers get hot in Florida sun?
Light-colored pavers and travertine stay noticeably cooler than dark stamped concrete. Color choice matters most.
Can you do the deck without redoing the pool?
Yes. Decking and resurfacing can be done separately or together. Together often saves time and cost.
Can pavers go over my existing concrete?
Often, yes, as an overlay if the slab is sound and the height works at doors and coping. We’ll check on-site.
Do I need a permit?
Usually. We handle the permitting process for you.
